A quiet reading room representing careful, organised knowledge work

Our Company

We think organisations know more than they realise — they just can't always find it.

Marrowdale was set up to help Malaysian teams do something about that.

Our Story

Where Marrowdale came from

Marrowdale started in Kuala Lumpur from a straightforward observation: a lot of the knowledge that makes an organisation function well — how decisions get made, why certain processes work the way they do, what took years to figure out — tends to exist only in people's heads, not on any shelf where it can be found and used.

When those people move on, change roles, or simply get busy, that knowledge often goes with them. Teams rebuild it slowly and informally, or they work without it and wonder why things take longer than they should.

We set up Marrowdale because we believed there was a better way to help teams with this — one that didn't require expensive software or a major change programme, just good thinking about what knowledge matters, how to capture it, and how to keep it findable.

Our Mission

What we are here to do

Our work is to help Malaysian organisations build the conditions under which their collective knowledge stays accessible — so that the organisation functions well regardless of who is in or out of the office on a given day.

We do this through advisory engagements that are sized to where a team actually is. Some teams need a clear picture of the problem first; others already know what the problem is and need support organising their way through it; some are ready to build a lasting practice. We work with each of these.

We are not software vendors, and we are not interested in building dependency. A well-run engagement from Marrowdale should leave a team more capable of managing their own knowledge going forward.

How We Work

The things we hold to in every engagement

We listen before we suggest

Every team's situation is specific. We spend time understanding how a team actually works before offering any ideas about what should change. Advice that doesn't account for the real context isn't much use.

We work with what you have

Most teams already have tools that can do the job. Our preference is always to help you use them better, rather than adding to the complexity. A new system is only worth introducing when nothing else will serve.

We give honest assessments

If a particular approach won't serve a team well, we say so. Our interest is in your team being in a better position — not in extending an engagement beyond what it needs to be.

We build towards independence

The end of a Marrowdale engagement should leave your team with the capacity to maintain and extend what was built. We are not building something that requires us to come back and keep the lights on.

Suraya manages the day-to-day of client engagements and ensures sessions are well-prepared and followed through. She is usually the first point of contact for new enquiries.

Our Standards

How we hold ourselves to account

Client Confidentiality

All information shared during an engagement is treated with strict confidence. We do not reference clients without explicit permission, and confidentiality agreements are available on request.

Written Deliverables

Every engagement produces written outputs that belong to the client — summaries, templates, standards, playbooks. There is no advisory work that ends with a verbal debrief and nothing in writing.

Iterative Process

Our multi-session engagements build in review points so that the direction can be adjusted as the work develops. We do not rigidly follow a plan that has clearly stopped fitting the situation.

Data Privacy Compliance

Our handling of client and personal data follows Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act. We are transparent about what we hold and why, and we do not retain information beyond what the engagement requires.

Clear Communication

We confirm session times, agendas, and next steps in writing after each meeting. If something is unclear or if circumstances change, we address it promptly rather than letting ambiguity build up.

Post-Engagement Review

At the close of an engagement, we conduct a structured review with the client to confirm that what was built is working as intended and to identify anything that warrants a follow-up.

Knowledge Management in Malaysia

What knowledge management advisory looks like in a Malaysian context

Malaysian organisations face a particular set of knowledge challenges. Rapid staff turnover in certain sectors, multilingual working environments, and the dispersal of teams across KL and beyond all create conditions where knowledge tends to fragment. A practice that works in a single-language, single-site setting often needs adapting here.

Marrowdale's advisory work is rooted in this context. The approaches we suggest are ones that Malaysian teams can actually sustain — with the tools they have, in the languages they work in, and with the realistic level of time that busy teams can dedicate to knowledge work alongside their primary responsibilities.

We draw on a body of established practice in information architecture, organisational learning, and documentation design. We translate that into forms that are useful for a team of ten trying to stop losing knowledge to staff turnover, or a department of forty trying to get consistent in how it records and shares what it knows.

Knowledge management is not a one-time project. It is a set of habits and structures that a team maintains over time. What we help organisations build is the foundation for those habits — and the understanding of why they matter — so that the work continues after we have finished.
